Jonnu Smith: Start

UPDATE: Friday, November 22nd at 1:32 p.m. CST

While it looked like Delanie Walker would return in Week 12 after getting in limited practices during the week, it looks as though he will sit out once again, as the Titans have him listed as doubtful against the Jaguars.

Prior to this update, we had Smith as a sit, but now you can start him with confidence against the Jaguars defense allowing the 10th-most fantasy points per game to tight ends this year.

Even before Walker’s return, Smith was a risky start. The Titans tight end totaled just seven catches for 48 yards in his last two games, and was even outperformed by fellow tight end Anthony Firkser in Week 10.

With Walker back in the lineup, Smith’s chances should go down and he will become much more touchdown-dependent. And, as we’ve seen this season, Smith isn’t a dependable red zone target with just one touchdown reception in 10 games.

In five career games against the Jags, Smith is averaging just 1.6 receptions for 14.2 yards and 0.2 touchdowns.

It’s unfortunate because the Jags are exploitable when it comes to tight end production, as they’ve surrendered the 10th-most fantasy points per game to the position. However, there are simply too many mouths to feed at the tight end position with Walker back, making Smith a less ideal option than the veteran at this point.
