Bleacher Report named the Tennessee Titans’ Kryptonite after 10 games.

In an article listing the “Kryptonite” of every NFL team, Bleacher Report actually ended up paying the Tennessee Titans somewhat of a compliment.

So, what was the Titans’ Kryptonite, according to Bleacher Report?

B/R’s Brad Gagnon believes it’s offensive penalties, and more specifically those committed by left tackle Taylor Lewan, who has hindered an already struggling offense by killing drives all by himself.

"Only two NFL offenses have committed more penalties than the Tennessee Titans. Left tackle Taylor Lewan has been a particularly big problem, having taken nine penalties in only six games."

Lewan has committed nine penalties since returning from a four-game suspension for performance-enhancing drugs. Lewan’s career-high in penalties was 12 back in 2016, and he’s currently on pace to break that despite the fact that he’ll play in four less games.

Lewan added three to his total in Week 10, the most egregious of which was an unnecessary roughness penalty that he was later fined for. Lewan would follow that up with a holding penalty on the next play, effectively ruining the Titans’ first drive of the second half.

After the game, Lewan was remorseful about his play, calling himself “a liability” and he also admitted that he’s “killing the team.”

Lewan has said and done all the right things in response to his issues, but now he has to take action in order to really atone for his mistakes.

On the bright side, Gagnon did pay the Titans a compliment in his write-up. Despite saying the Titans “look and feel like a mediocre team,” he did say that they “don’t have any glaring weaknesses.”

While that was something positive to read, I’d contend there is one glaring weakness this team has. The interior of the offensive line has been putrid in pass protection, namely at the guard spots, and it’s one reason why the Titans are tied for the most sacks allowed in the NFL.
