Dion Lewis
While nobody really expected a ton from running back Dion Lewis this season with the end of 2018 emergence of fellow back Derrick Henry, we didn’t expect Lewis to fall completely off the map.
Lewis was an important part of the Titans’ offense last season thanks to the team dealing with injuries and not having a lot of talent on the offense overall. He finished second in rushing yards and receptions, and had the third-most receiving yards on the team.
Within those 2018 numbers was perhaps a telltale sign that Lewis was on the decline. He averaged just 3.3 yards per carry, which was the first time in his career he had lower than four yards per tote.
Lewis has followed that up with a 3.7 yards per carry average in 2019 and has less rushing yards than both Mariota and Tannehill. Lewis was at least supposed to be a factor in the passing game, but after he totaled just 6.8 yards per reception in 2018, he’s averaging 4.8 yards per catch in 2019.
Lewis has experienced quite the fall from relevance and the Titans must explore cutting him next season in order to bring in another back who can spell Henry and contribute on third downs.
