Rodger Saffold

When the Titans signed left guard Rodger Saffold to a four-year, $44 million contract this past offseason, the team thought Saffold would stabilize the interior of the Titans’ offensive line. So far, that has not been the case.

Saffold has allowed more sacks this season than he did all of last year with the Los Angeles Rams, and as a result he’s drawn the ire of Titans fans everywhere. In fact, Saffold recently spoke out about the frustration he feels with his critics, and he thinks the criticism he’s receiving is unfair.

That’s his opinion and he’s welcomed to it, but the tape tells a different story. Sure, we can point to Saffold’s contributions in the ground game as being very good lately, however the veteran guard simply has not been the lineman we thought he was in pass protection.

The Titans will need much more than what they’ve gotten from Saffold through the first 10 games of 2019, and he’ll need to do better if Tennessee is going to keep Tannehill upright and make a playoff push.
