Carolina Panthers

With quarterback Cam Newton‘s season ending early after being placed on injured reserve, the Carolina Panthers might be transitioning into a new era with quarterback Kyle Allen moving forward.

If Newton does indeed move on following the 2019 season, Allen would be the starter for the foreseeable future, however with such a small sample size there’s no telling if he’s truly capable of taking the reins for the next decade-plus.

It would make sense for the Panthers to bring in a veteran insurance policy like Marcus Mariota, who could take over behind center if Allen doesn’t pan out or gets injured. Without a viable backup, the Panthers would be in serious trouble next season if either of those scenarios play out.

Carolina has a pair of impressive receivers in D.J. Moore and Curtis Samuel, and one of the best running backs in the NFL in Christian McCaffrey. The Panthers are a lot closer to competing with those players and a solid defense, and Mariota could be the guy to make it work if Allen doesn’t.
