Denver Broncos

After criticizing his coaching staff following a Week 8 loss to the Indianapolis Colts, Denver Broncos quarterback Joe Flacco was placed on injured reserve with a neck injury.

Whether or not you believe Flacco is actually injured or just being buried by his team for his comments, the Broncos have a problem at quarterback. Even when he was healthy, Flacco was not playing well and is not the long-term solution in Denver.

In his place, the Broncos are deploying backup quarterback Brandon Allen, who didn’t look to be anything special in his first game. Behind him, the Broncos have undrafted rookie Brett Rypien and 2019 second-round pick Drew Lock, who is currently on IR but could come off of it soon.

With the way the Broncos have failed to find a franchise signal-caller in the draft in recent years with John Elway at the helm, Lock is no sure bet to work out for Denver, which means the Broncos could be in the market for another quarterback next season.

Marcus Mariota would instantly have a chance to compete for a starting job if he signed in Denver, and the Broncos do have some decent weapons to surround him with on offense. Elway could bring Mariota in to compete with his young quarterbacks, and that’s a competition I think Mariota could win.
