Taylor Lewan is hurting the Titans

It’s impossible to ignore just how much of a detriment Taylor Lewan currently is to his own team. Since his return from suspension, Lewan has committed several drive-killing penalties that have set the Titans offense back, something this inconsistent unit can ill-afford.

Lewan committed two penalties on the Titans’ first drive of the second half. First, Lewan was guilty of a bone-headed foul when he was flagged for unnecessary roughness for pushing a Chiefs player after a play was already dead. He even got some lip from rookie wideout A.J. Brown for his idiotic move.

And, just when the Titans seemed to overcome that penalty on a 20-yard strike from Tannehill to Jonnu Smith, Lewan set them back again with a holding penalty. He single-handedly wrecked the Titans’ drive, something that has become all too common since his return from suspension.

We’ve heard Lewan talk about how he needs to get better, and he did so again after the Week 10 win, but now the left tackle needs to actually do it on the field. If he hopes to be a leader in the Titans’ locker room, he has to lead by example, and right now he isn’t doing that.
