Jonnu Smith: Start (depending)

The decision to start or sit Jonnu Smith comes down to one big factor: the health of Delanie Walker.

UPDATE: It appears Walker will not play in Week 10, as he told the media today that he isn’t ready to take the field yet.

Smith now becomes a viable option to start on Sunday against the Chiefs. Read on for more analysis of his matchup.

End of Update

If Walker does end up playing in Week 10 (he didn’t practice Wednesday or Thursday), Smith is a risky bet to start. If Walker doesn’t play, Smith’s outlook for Sunday is a lot better as the top option at tight end for the Titans.

If you somehow find yourself in the position of having to choose between the two, I’d go with Smith. If you have Smith but not Walker and the veteran plays, you might be best off going with another option.

Despite only producing three catches for 18 yards in Week 9, Smith did see five targets, and he did drop a pass that could have led to at least somewhat better numbers. Week 10 will be a decent bounce-back spot for Smith, as he’ll be going up against a Chiefs defense that is in the middle of the pack in fantasy points allowed per game to the position.

It’s also important to note that the Titans will likely be chasing points, so Smith could be a beneficiary of a pass-heavy attack.
