Defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons was among five Tennessee Titans who did not practice on Thursday.
On what was a cold, rainy day in Nashville, there were five Tennessee Titans players who did not practice on Thursday, the biggest surprise being defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons (hamstring) popping up on the injury report.
Along with Simmons, tight end Delanie Walker (ankle), wide receiver Corey Davis (hip), defensive lineman Jurrell Casey (shoulder), and inside linebacker Jayon Brown (groin) did not participate.
While we’ll obviously be concerned about Simmons’ status and have to monitor it closely, at least the injury doesn’t have anything to do with his knee and the torn ACL he recently came back from.
If Simmons is forced to sit out this week, it’ll be a huge blow to a defense that is already up against it with the Kansas City Chiefs coming to town.
Want some good news? Center Ben Jones was a full participant in practice for the first time since suffering a concussion in Week 8. He remains in the concussion protocol officially, but there’s a good chance he gets cleared before Week 10.
Walker has missed the last two games with his ankle injury, but told the media on Monday that he was progressing towards a return. The veteran tight end said he got some treadmill work in and came out of it OK. We’ll see if he returns to the practice field on Friday in some capacity.
Casey was another player who got ruled out in Week 9 and he has yet to practice this week.
Brown has been dealing with a groin injury for a few weeks now and seemed to re-aggravate the injury last Sunday, which forced him to leave the game early. His status for Week 9 isn’t looking too good.
Another concern for the Titans is Davis, who popped up on the injury report on Wednesday with a hip issue. Davis is in danger of missing the Sunday contest against the Chiefs with two DNPs in a row.
We’ll have a better idea where all these players stand after Friday’s practice, which will hopefully lend better weather conditions to really flesh things out. There’s always a chance some of these players didn’t practice simply because of poor weather.
