Optimism or Concern: Matt Moore or Patrick Mahomes

The status of Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes could end up giving the Titans optimism or concern. We still don’t have a concrete answer as to whether or not Mahomes will suit up in Week 10.

If Mahomes plays, the Titans’ chances of winning go down. Mahomes is an MVP-caliber quarterback and one of the biggest stars in the NFL, thus his presence behind center for the Chiefs makes them significantly better.

If Mahomes sits out one more game and the Chiefs deploy backup quarterback Matt Moore instead, Tennessee’s chances go up for sure because, as we all know, Moore is no Mahomes. No backup quarterback can properly fill the shoes of a superstar like Mahomes.

However, Moore has been serviceable in Mahomes’ absence and has won two of the three games he’s played for KC, although one of those wins came in Week 7 when he relieved Mahomes during the game. As a starter, he’s 1-1.

In total, Moore is completing 64.8 percent of his passes and has thrown for four touchdowns to no picks in his last three games. In his two starts, Moore is averaging 271 passing yards per game. The Chiefs are loaded with talent on offense, so while Moore is a significant downgrade from Mahomes, this team still remains extremely dangerous.
