After a 4-5 start through nine weeks, where do the Tennessee Titans stand in the AFC playoff picture?

The Tennessee Titans are in a bad way right now after suffering their fifth loss of the season at the hands of the Carolina Panthers in Week 9. Understandably, the last thing Titans fans are thinking about right now is the playoffs.

But, if we were to venture down that path and look at where the Titans stand in the AFC Playoff picture, how are things looking?

Jim Wyatt of Titans Online shared the graphic shown on ESPN’s Monday Night Football of the current situation in the AFC.

The Titans are obviously sitting on the outside looking in for the Wild Card, and behind teams like the Jacksonville Jaguars, Oakland Raiders, and Pittsburgh Steelers before even getting to the last Wild Card spot owned by the Indianapolis Colts.

In their remaining slate of games, the Titans have matchups with the Jaguars, Raiders and Colts remaining, but nothing with the Steelers. And, as far as the Steelers and Raiders go, both teams’ schedules aren’t daunting by any stretch, but rather more of a middle-of-the-road slate.

The case can easily be made that the Titans have the toughest schedule remaining of the teams in this playoff picture, while the Wild Card-leading Colts, and in particular the Jaguars, have a bit easier of a stretch run.

The opportunity to make the playoffs could open up a bit more if the Buffalo Bills start to collapse in the second half, however their schedule is certainly more favorable than that of Tennessee’s, and comparable to those of the Steelers and Raiders.

With the combination of their current position and their second-half schedule, the Titans are going to need a lot of things to go right in order to make the playoffs in 2019. Stranger things have happened, but it’s hard to have hope at this point.
