GM Jon Robinson’s first-ever NFL draft pick never really lived up to the hype. After being named a first-team All-Pro as a rookie in 2016, Conklin looked like a shoo-in to bookend the right side of the Titans’ offensive line for years to come. My, how things can change.

The Titans declined Conklin’s fifth-year option on May 1st, electing to forego paying Conklin’s scheduled salary of $12.86 million. Instead, the team will either try and re-sign him for what they deem to be his actual value, or let him test the waters in free agency.

I assume the latter, as I believe the coaching staff (and myself, personally) like swing tackle Dennis Kelly a lot. Either way, expect to see either Conklin or Kelly extended before the beginning of next season. The team can’t afford to lose two starting-caliber tackles, even if they plan to address the issue early in the draft.
