Looking back

Tennessee’s front office made a bold decision to turn down draft capital to kickstart the franchise around Mariota.

For a Titans team that had numerous gaps in 2014, the Titans needed the additional draft picks to help their defense add skill players before adding a rookie QB. General Manager Ruston Webster was horrible at bringing in talent during his tenure and this was the final straw.

The Titans took years to add talent back on the team. Current GM Jon Robinson has done well with bringing in young stars and forgotten veterans for reasonable contracts. However, his biggest miss has been sticking with a decision that a former GM made even though it wasn’t clearly a mistake until this year.

With Mariota’s benching earlier this season, the game this weekend against the Bucs has lost its luster. A couple of years ago, we would have penciled in this matchup as the game to watch between two NFL leading QBs. Yet, the Titans sit here, just as confused on their future five years later.
