Marcus Mariota, QB
Let’s start with the most obvious player on this list.
Marcus Mariota is going to be in the NFL for a few more years and could have a decade left in his career if he can find the right team.
If I was a team with the habit of collecting QBs or tradeable assets like the New England Patriots, New Orleans Saints or Seattle Seahawks then I am calling the Titans and trying to figure out if there is a deal to be made.
Right now the Titans are out on Marcus Mariota and know that they are waiting for what will probably be a 4th round compensatory NFL Draft pick in 2021 if they just let him walk as a free agent.
Specifically, if the New Orleans Saints traded a 4th round pick to the Tennessee Titans for Marcus Mariota then I think that deal works out for everyone. This offseason the New Orleans Saints are probably going to trade Teddy Bridgewater for a haul to a team that needs a new QB after he has gone 4-0 as the starter.
While conventional wisdom says to keep the guy doing that well, I would imagine the Bridgewater is going to ask to start or for a much better deal to stay in New Orleans. As great as that would be, it just doesn’t make sense to pay two starting QBs.
So while you lose a 4th for Mariota, you gain a solid backup QB with long term potential and the option to trade Bridgewater for a top-40 pick. Win-win.
