Winner: Harold Landry, EDGE

I tweeted about this earlier, but the idea that Harold Landry isn’t having a huge impact on the game because of his sack total is box score scouting at its worst.

The Tennessee Titans got so lucky that other teams decided they didn’t want one of the best EDGEs to come out in the last two years.

While the snaps are few and far between, on the rare occasion where Dean Pees (more on him later even though I think he is an elite DC) lets Harold Landry rush with speed on the outside, tackles struggle to get hands on him and when they do he easily removes them with a swipe or his bend.

He tested as an elite athlete at the combine, but he is asked to spend his time selflessly helping the rest of the defense out by jamming/delaying tight ends, stunting inside to create inside pressure and confuse offensive linemen or just outright dropping into coverage.

I am completely alright with that on a macro level, but if you have the audacity to use that against him, you are so far in the wrong that I may not able to help you.

At that point, your argument might as well be that Landry isn’t a stud is that “He is so talented and athletic that the Titans use him in different ways to help support the defense as a whole” because outside of vague adjectives, you need to tell me what he doesn’t have or what he needs to do.

Again, I know the arguments to this but you need to find me on Twitter and see what I wrote about them because I tried to show my work as best as I could in a quick, digestible way.
