Titans vs. Chargers: Reasons for optimism and concern for Tennessee
By Ravi Konjeti
Concern: Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram
The Chargers edge rushers Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram are two of the NFL’s best. Ingram has been nursing a hamstring injury for the past couple of games and might potentially be unavailable for the game on Sunday against the Titans.
If Ingram sits out, then the Titans offensive line will have received a huge blessing. The Titans were in a similar situation last week with Bradley Chubb being placed on IR, but it did not seem to help them, as the team gave up 7 sacks.
Bosa has been electric since he has been in the league. The Titans have struggled to provide protection all season. Even with the injection of All-Pro Taylor Lewan in the O-line, the outcomes have been the same. The guards have been beaten up all season long and could potentially be in for a long day against a tough Chargers front.
The Titans might need to drop additional tight ends and backs in blocking on passing downs to help mitigate Bosa and Ingram. If that is needed, the offense might be in for a long day against a top five passing defense. The Titans receivers have shown no real ability to find separation and there is no reason to believe this week will be any different.
