Turnovers and field position

One way the Titans can make things easy on the offense is to win the field position battle, which is a battle that is inevitable when two solid defenses like these are squaring off.

If the Titans want their offense to be setup with short fields, the defense must take advantage of the turnover machine that Joe Flacco has been this season. The Broncos quarterback has turned the ball over seven times, with four picks and four fumbles (three lost).

As a whole, the Broncos have a -4 turnover differential, the third-worst mark in the league. The Titans, on the other hand, have a +6 turnover differential, the third-best.

So, not only are the Broncos turning the ball over a lot, they are also not creating turnovers. With the way Mariota has taken care of the ball in 2019, there isn’t much room for the Broncos to take advantage of mistakes, and instead they’ll have to earn every scoring drive they get.

Per usual, the Titans also have their secret weapon in punter Brett Kern for field position battles. Kern’s 15 punts that have landed inside the 20 are tied for the most, and opponents have routinely seen some of the worst average field positions in the NFL against the Titans thanks to him.
