John Lowell:

Defense wins championships…at least, that’s the motto for both the Tennessee Titans and Buffalo Bills.

The Titans return to Nissan Stadium on the heels of an impressive Week 4 victory in Atlanta, while the Bills couldn’t quite get it done at home against the New England Patriots. Buffalo was 3-0 before that matchup, and the team was very close to being undefeated headed into Nashville.

Bills’ Head Coach Sean McDermott has a young, talented, and well-coached football team that excels on the defensive side of the ball, ranking 6th in the NFL allowing just 15.8 points per game.

Inside linebacker, Tremaine Edmunds is rangy and as versatile as they come and the Bills will probably use him to spy QB Marcus Mariota. His lateral quickness could prove to be an issue, especially if Mariota feels the pressure and needs to get out of dodge quickly.

Will the Titans’ receivers be able to step up to the plate once more against a stingy Bills defense? Will RB Derrick Henry benefit from last week’s breakout by wide receivers A.J. Brown and Corey Davis?

One thing is for sure; I’m taking the under on this one. The Titans defense happens to rank 5th (to the Bills 6th) in scoring defense, allowing 15.5 points per game. Expect a slug-fest; this will be a low-scoring affair with the Titans getting the win at home.

Titans 17, Bills 13

*Fun fact: The Bills are 2-0 vs. the Titans since Marcus Mariota’s arrival in the NFL. Both wins were by one point.
