Tennessee Titans offense: Taylor Lewan

Just a reminder of how good and important Taylor Lewan is, here is a list of the offensive tackles that have made the Pro Bowl in each of the last three years:

Trent Williams

Tyron Smith

That’s it.

He has been outstanding for Tennessee in his short time here and for everyone who wants to get all excitable about him doing a podcast while suspended or whatever they get into a huff about, remember what it is like to lean on guys like Michael Oher or Will Svitek.

The Titans were lucky enough to draft Lewan and not have to see either of those guys at left tackle.

Dennis Kelly did fine at left tackle, but the gap between fine and Taylor Lewan is huge. It also is important because this offensive scheme is supposed to be run though outside zone blocking.

That means that you need a really agile offensive tackle that can hook the EDGE or the linebacker when you run outside zone or you lose a gap right off the bat. Taylor Lewan just happens to be the most athletic offensive tackle in recorded history.

Combine that with the fact that Rodger Saffold has always been a guy who thrives off of playing next to a great left tackle, and you have the recipe for a big boom in production this week on the left side of the offensive line.
