Defensive Rookie of the Year: Isaiah Mack

An undrafted free agent out of Chattanooga, defensive lineman Isaiah Mack was a standout during training camp and the preseason, which helped him earn a spot on the Titans’ 53-man roster. The decision to keep Mack has certainly paid off for the Titans.

Mack is tied for third on the team in sacks (1.5), and has also added four tackles (one solo) to the stat sheet. We’re seeing an improvement in his ability to get to the quarterback on a weekly basis, and with more time he could be a true force for the Titans in the pass-rush.

“Mack Attack” is also one-third of what is clearly the best defensive line combination the Titans can run out there when combined with fellow linemen DaQuan Jones and Jurrell Casey. Mack has out-played both Brent Urban and Matt Dickerson thus far, both of whom have been healthy inactives at least once each this season, while Mack has played every game.

There’s no doubt the inevitable return of defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons will impact Mack’s playing time, but he’s done more than enough to remain a factor once the Mississippi State product does returns.

Honorable mention: Amani Hooker

I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention safety and Iowa product, Amani Hooker. The rookie has earned his fair share of snaps in a secondary that is loaded with talent, and has made some standout plays already this season that don’t show up on the stat sheet.
