Despite their struggles in pass protection, the Tennessee Titans have earned a solid ranking in pass-block win rate among the rest of the NFL.

Even though their offensive line has been a sieve to start the 2019 season, the Tennessee Titans hold a pretty solid ranking in pass-block win rate.

Tennessee allowed 17 sacks through its first three games and were on a historic pace of ineptitude upfront. The 17 sacks were the most a single quarterback had taken in three games since 2002.

Despite the early-season struggles, the Titans pass-block win rate is still 59.5 percent, which lands them at No. 13 in the NFL, per ESPN’s Seth Walder.

That number was certainly helped by the Titans’ Week 4 game in which the team didn’t allow a single sack and saw much better pass protection overall.

Of course, a lot of that zero sack performance had to do with the decision-making of quarterback Marcus Mariota, who had to throw the ball away four times to avoid sacks. Regardless, the Titans were simply better upfront than they had been the past two weeks.

One of the biggest differences in the Titans’ O-line in Week 4 was the insertion of rookie right guard Nate Davis into the lineup. In 40 snaps, Davis earned a pass-blocking grade of 56.9, which isn’t great but still remains a vast improvement over fellow guard Jamil Douglas’ 28.3.

The situation on the offensive line stands to improve even more in Week 5, as the Titans will have both Davis and star left tackle Taylor Lewan.

Lewan returns from a four-game suspension against the Buffalo Bills and will be a major shot in the arm on the left side of the line that should also help left guard Rodger Saffold, who struggled in his first four games.

The boost to the offensive line from these two players give a Titans team that already has a full head of steam even more momentum for Sunday.
