Nate Davis is on his way

Shout it from the rooftops, Titans fans: right guard Jamil Douglas‘ days as the team’s starter are officially numbered, if not done already. Gone are the days of 12.4 pass-blocking grades — or at least we hope.

While Douglas and Nate Davis rotated in and out with each other throughout the entire game and it was Douglas who actually got the start, Davis saw the majority of snaps at right guard on Sunday, and by a pretty significant margin.

The 2019 third-round pick saw 40 snaps (62 percent) to Douglas’ 24 snaps (38 percent). That tells me that not only was Davis’ conditioning fine, he also played well in his NFL debut. Had either one of those things not been true, the snap counts for both players likely would have been more even.

The only hiccup that was noticeable was when Davis allowed a defender through on a run-pass option play that almost got quarterback Marcus Mariota sacked, however the Titans signal-caller was able to get the ball away to avoid it.

We’ll get better looks at Davis as the weeks go on, but for now this is a great sign and means the Titans might have gotten an upgrade on what has been a struggling O-line.
