Tennessee Titans: Taylor Lewan has been freed; Mariota talks Dad’s return
The Tennessee Titans will be getting star left tackle Taylor Lewan back for the Week 5 game versus the Buffalo Bills.
Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota spoke about the return of star left tackle Taylor Lewan, who returned to the team on Monday and is set to make his 2019 debut in Week 5.
According to Paul Kuharsky, Lewan was seen in the team’s facility on Monday morning already getting to work in the weight room.
Man, it’s great to have Dad back. Sure, there are many fans who are understandably pissed off about Lewan getting suspended in the first place, but that’s in the past now and we should all be happy to have him return with the Titans having weathered the storm en route to a 2-2 start.
After the game on Sunday, Mariota spoke about getting his left tackle back for Week 5, but he also made sure to praise Lewan’s sub, fellow tackle Dennis Kelly, per Jim Wyatt of Titans Online.
"“When you bring back a Pro Bowl-type player, that’s going to be a huge lift. We’re looking forward to having him back. Dennis has done an incredible job in his absence, and I think he deserves a lot of credit for where we’re at. It’ll be nice to have Taylor back in the building, we’re looking forward to having him back.”"
Mariota is right, because Kelly deserves to be recognized for his role in filling the void while Lewan was out.
Granted, the Titans O-line as a whole was a mess for the most part, but Kelly certainly wasn’t the biggest problem during the first four games. Most other teams don’t have such a talented replacement like Kelly and would have been far worse off.
Getting Lewan back will be a major addition. Not only is he one of the best at his position in the NFL at the most important spot on the offensive line, Lewan is also a leader on this team. His return gives a ton of momentum for a Titans squad that already has a head of steam after a huge Week 4 win.
Along with Lewan, the Titans should also have rookie right guard Nate Davis starting in Week 5. And, for the first time all season, we should finally get a look at what this Titans offensive line was supposed to be at the start of the season now that it’s at full strength.
