1. Nate Davis
This isn’t so much a breakout as it is an overall upgrade for the Titans.
While I don’t expect guard Nate Davis to step in and manhandle Falcons’ DT Grady Jarrett, it’s hard to foresee anybody playing worse than RG Jamil Douglas did last week. Side-note: Jarrett did not practice on Wednesday with a toe injury.
Davis’ “waiting to be groomed” period has come to an end. Analysts believed he needed more time to grow, as he was a raw, small-school prospect out of Charlotte.
Well, whether he’s ready or not, it’s time to pay the bill on his third-round draft equity, because the Titans are out of other options. With OL Kevin Pamphile still dealing with a knee injury, and Douglas possibly not belonging in the National Football League, the team must turn to Davis.
The good news is that his power and girth will fit right into the Titans’ run scheme, and he should have success moving bodies off the line. Assuming he has worked on his “frog” stance, he should be able to win at the point of attack. However, Davis tends to get tall at the snap, for lack of a better word, to compensate for his naturally low stance. If he’s fixed his compulsion to do so, he should have more leverage in the trenches.
