How bad is 1-2 for the Tennessee Titans, and what does it mean?

Defense

It should be noted that while the offense is having problems getting anything at all figured out, the defense seems absolutely locked in.

Right now the Titans are 8th in points allowed per game. Last year, 6 of the top 8 defenses in points allowed made the playoffs. While it is hard to imagine the defense holding teams to 18 points or less for an entire season like they are now, if they would match what only 2 teams did last season. Both of those teams made the playoffs.

With Jurrell Casey not really showing up to this point and with Jeffery Simmons getting healthy, there is a reason for optimism that a strength will get stronger as this season goes on.

It isn’t only points, the Titans defense had 17 turnovers all of last year and they currently lead the league with 5 turnovers right now. The ability to make big plays and to steal possessions are a huge asset and one that the Titans defense didn’t even have with their great defense last year.

If this Titans team can just continue to be dominant on defense then the offense will come. Guys like Corey Davis, A.J. Brown, Delanie Walker, Derrick Henry, and Adam Humphries aren’t going to let this offense be terrible again, at least if Arthur Smith is anything but a terrible OC.
