EDGE4 Kamalei Correa vs Reggie Gilbert

The Tennessee Titans knew they needed help on the EDGE coming into the season.

In free agency they made the move to add Cameron Wake who looked worst every bit the investment in Week 1.

After that they drafted D’Andre Walker from Georgia and signed an UDFA they really liked long-term in Derick Roberson.

Then before the season they traded for Reggie Gilbert who looked like the odd man out in Green Bay after they added three EDGEs between free agency and the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

All of this happened with Kamalei Correa on the roster.

I’m not saying that they don’t like Correa or that they don’t think he has any value, but what I am saying is that they weren’t comfortable with him as their unopposed EDGE4. If he was going to make the roster it was going to be because he earned it and because he looked like a factor.

However, throughout the preseason and so far this season he has been a non factor and just doesn’t look like the guy we saw flashes of last year.

If he continues to struggle, or if he doesn’t do anything eye popping (a sack or a few TFLs) then I think Reggie Gilbert is going to take over those snaps. By the way, if you think EDGE4 is a small role, know that Correa has played more snaps than Cameron Wake or Wesley Woodyard this year.

The reason why Gilbert isn’t already starting after the trade is because he was injured with the Green Bay Packers before the move. While the Titans knew about the move, it sounds like the injury may have been a little worse than we were led to believe thought that could just be Mike Vrabel being cautious.

Either way, the Titans need some juice when Harold Landry or Sharif Finch sub out and they aren’t getting that from Correa. Unless they decide to make Wake an occasional run down defender (which I don’t expect) then someone else is going to have to step up.
