Wasting time on fourth-and-2

After Sharpe’s mind-boggling decision to not turn the ball up the field, the Titans were faced with a fourth-and-2 from their own 34.

In this situation there were two logical options with a full play clock to work with: either punt it away or go for it on fourth down.

Well, the Titans chose neither of those options and instead chose “Plan C”: line up on the ball, meekly try to draw the Colts defense offside, look to the sideline for the next 20 seconds, and then take a delay of game.

Yikes. This might have been the second-worst blunder of the game.

In that situation, a decision needs to be made, and quickly. There’s no room to waste time or timeouts in that spot, and if your goal is to try and trick the Colts into jumping offside, you MUST do a better job than that.

Blame it on Mariota, the coaching staff, or whoever, but this type of dysfunction late in games cannot happen if this team is going to be successful in 2019.
