Can Marcus Mariota ever win a Super Bowl?

That is the big question and ultimately the biggest question for any QB in the NFL. However, there are only a handful of QBs that I think can win a Super Bowl because of their play and not because they have a stacked roster around them.

Tom Brady obviously could lead a 10-man offense to a Super Bowl title at least once in a five year span, he is just that good and he and head coach Bill Belichick are in perfect harmony.

Drew Brees is injured, but when healthy he looks like he could make your local grocery clerk a 500-yard receiver.

Dak Prescott looks great this year, but I am not quite ready to exalt him as one of the next great QBs. He has been on too many stacked rosters to really get that kind of title.

Ben Roethlisberger is out for the year, but even when healthy his team couldn’t even make the playoffs in 2018 despite him throwing 600+ passes.

Matt Ryan has looked bad this year and has elite weapons all round him, so he isn’t getting that bump either.

Russell Wilson is great and despite his team’s struggles I always watch him and come away with the thought that he gives every play a chance to score even if the design and the players executing around him aren’t great.

Patrick Mahomes is really one of the only 4 QBs in the NFL that I feel like you could drop on any team in the NFL and they would instantly become contenders or at least a big threat to make a run in the playoffs.

The big key is that all of these QBs could make it to a Super Bowl and win a Super Bowl, just like so many others could in the NFL. However, only a select few could actually “lead” a team to a Super Bowl and be the driving factor for their success.

So, when you ask if Marcus Mariota can win a Super Bowl, then yes I do. The last non-traditional QBs for the teams that won the title are: Nick Foles, Joe Flacco and Eli Manning.

I believe that we have seen enough from Mariota to say that if he had the talent and coaching of those teams he would be in a position to win those games based off of what we have seen from those QBs without that talent or coaching.

However, he isn’t one of the four elite QBs in the NFL that could drag a team to a Championship game (Brady, Wilson, Brees, Mahomes) so like with the other 28 QBs in the NFL, he would need help to get there.
