Titans cornerback Logan Ryan’s play was one of the bright spots on a rather disappointing Sunday afternoon. His effort has earned him our Week 2 Player of the Game.

In a Week 2 game in which the Tennessee Titans could generate almost no offense, a defensive player, cornerback Logan Ryan, was the team’s Player of the Game in the losing effort against the Indianapolis Colts.

Because we had to pick one player of the game from each side of the ball, we gave it to quarterback Marcus Mariota on offense.

Player of the Game: Logan Ryan

Logan Ryan was the epitome of the phrase “MMCNB”. He seemed to be everywhere on Sunday afternoon.

When he wasn’t intercepting Colts QB Jacoby Brissett, he was setting up his teammates for near interceptions themselves. Ryan was also a force in the run game as he assisted on three tackles as well.

The former Rutgers cornerback finished the day with four total tackles, one interception, and two pass deflections.

Offensive player of the game: Marcus Mariota

On a day when the Titans offense didn’t look nearly as sharp as you would like, QB Marcus Mariota played efficient for most of the game despite shaky play from everyone around him.

Mariota was a fearless competitor out there on  Sunday. Sometimes too fearless for his own good. The Titans QB sacrificed his body on numerous occasions in order to fight for extra yardage.

It’s hard not to love Mariota’s competitiveness but he has to be smarter on some of these plays. On top of his self-inflicted beating on some of his runs, the offensive line did him no favors in pass protection as they allowed four sacks and were consistently allowing Colts to harass Mariota throughout the game.

Mariota finished a respectable 19-of-28 for 154 yards and one passing touchdown, along with five carries for 32 yards. The fact that these numbers get you offensive player of the game should tell you everything you need to know about the team’s overall performance.

Honorable mention: David Quessenberry

Guard David Quessenberry isn’t exactly your household name, but he had the best story of the day regardless of the box score.

The former San Jose State guard came in on a goal line situation in the first half and caught a touchdown pass from Mariota. This was a big play not only for the Titans, but for the Quessenberry family as well.

The former Spartan made the Titans final 53-man roster out of training camp following a three-year football hiatus due to a lymphoma diagnosis. He got to celebrate his return with the first NFL touchdown of his career.
