Winner: Harold Landry, EDGE

Some people wanted to see more from Harold Landry on the stat sheet and today should have been a step in the right direction.

As I said last week, Landry should have been credited with 1.5 sacks and a FF against the Cleveland Browns. Unfortunately a “DPI” call and a stat error left those stats in the ether.

His stats weren’t theoretical this week as Landry was credited with a sack and 6 tackles despite playing a more nebulous role as an occasional off ball LB in the new formation the Titans used this week.

Landry is a good pass rusher and is going to get a lot of pressure, but the problem right now is that Dean Pees and Mike Vrabel are asking a lot of Landry, Casey, Rashaan Evans, and Cameron Wake.

AT MOST, they are moving to a diamond formation and trying to create 1-on-1 matchups but the problem is that usually that involves the DBs and other LBs playing back and giving the QB easy options while the front line struggles with 4-on-6 blocking schemes.

The idea behind this is right, on 3rd and 12 make the other QB throw it 6 yards and then close and make the tackle. However, it doesn’t make for a pretty stat line so it is harder to defend unless you know what you are looking for.
