Winner: Isaiah Mack, DT
Mack looked pretty great today in his first time getting starter reps. At times, he gave All-Pro guard Quenton Nelson all he could handle.
Despite being an UDFA nose tackle from Chattanooga, Mack ended up with a sack and a Quenton Nelson holding call under his belt.
After Sharif Finch last year and Isaiah Mack this year, Jon Robinson’s ability to manipulate and navigate through UDFA has netted him players that probably end up with value close to a Day 2 pick.
If he can keep doing that then the Tennessee Titans are going to be able to move around and attack the draft however they want to, giving them the freedom to give up picks for players they love without being afraid of a thin roster.
Right now the trio of Mack, Daquan Jones and Jurrell Casey have been much better than I thought they would have. With Jeffery Simmons on the way, the Titans have the chance to be truly deep in both 3-4 and 4-3 defensive looks.
That versatility will help the team, and it is in no small part because Mack has looked like a really good rookie DT, regardless of his draft position.
