The Tennessee Titans released a statement addressing the fire that took place on the sidelines prior to the Week 2 game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Prior to the Tennessee Titans Week 2 loss to the Indianapolis Colts, a fire broke out on the sidelines after their was an issue with a pyrotechnic machine during the pregame.

The fire created a ton of smoke and concern for fans sitting in the area. Thankfully, the crew at Nissan Stadium was able to put it out before any real damage occurred. The fire left a spot of scorched earth on the ground in its place.

John Glennon of The Athletic shared the team’s statement following the game on Sunday.

"Following the pregame introductions today, there was a mechanical failure by one of the pyrotechnic devices which resulted in a fire. The vendor will be required by the state of Tennessee to undergo an inspection for the defective device and the others that were used to determine the final cause. The field staff acted quickly to extinguish the fire, which resulted in no injuries and minor field damage."

This is the minor field damage the statement is referring to.

The fire came on a day in which the the Titans played in the hottest gameday temperature in Nissan Stadium history.

Despite the hot temperature, the Titans offense was cold as can be, only mustering up 17 points and 242 yards of total offense. It was nothing short of a disappointing loss for a Titans team that was coming into Week 2 riding high after a great win against the Cleveland Browns in Week 1.

The loss — and to a lesser extent, the fire — put a damper on what was an otherwise special day, as Titans greats Eddie George and Steven McNair each had their jerseys retired by the organization.

Tennessee won’t have much time to think about it, though. The Titans hit the road to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday Night Football on September 19th.
