5. New Orleans Saints (1-1)
Not only did the New Orleans Saints lose their Week 2 game versus the Los Angeles Rams, they also lost quarterback Drew Brees to a thumb injury that made it difficult for the future Hall of Famer to even grip the football on the sidelines.
In his place, Teddy Bridgewater completed 17-of-30 passes for 165 yards, but the Saints were only able to muster up nine points via three field goals from the leg of Will Lutz. The Saints defense did its best to keep New Orleans in the game, but the Rams started to separate themselves in the third quarter and never looked back.
After evening the game at six in the third quarter, the Rams went on to score two touchdowns to take a 20-6 lead, and the Saints were only able to answer back with a field goal the rest of the way.
While we don’t know the status of Brees at the moment, there is an obvious reason for concern. As this game showed us, the Saints simply aren’t the same team without him, and any extended absence could be disastrous for what is otherwise a very talented group. The Saints will try to rebound in Week 3 on the road against the Seattle Seahawks.
