The Tennessee Titans need to have a running back on speed dial.

After Sunday’s game vs the Cleveland Browns, I think everyone feel pretty confident that Tennessee Titans RB Derrick Henry is in store for a big year.

Not only did he run well as the game progressed, but he caught a screen pass for a huge touchdown (both in yardage and in importance to the game). He did all that with the Titans 3rd string RG and 2nd string LT on the field.

Arthur Smith has a great handle on how to use Henry and it looks like he is finding creative ways to keep him engaged in the game that don’t just involved a note in the corner of your play sheet that says “1st down? Give the ball to Henry” like we have seen some OCs do…

However, behind him was Dion Lewis who just didn’t bring much to the table at all. It was Henry that caught the huge screen pass while Lewis had one hit his hands that should have been a touchdown if he had just caught the ball.

I don’t mean to be to negative here but if Lewis isn’t going to be a receiving back with great hands and the ability to make guys miss in the open field, how often can you justify getting him on the field.

If his role is reduced from “receiving back” to “backup all-purpose back” then it may be time to look at some names available in free agency to see if the Titans can bring someone in to give them that.

Last night they released Dalyn Dawkins to bring in Aaron Stinnie to bolster a banged up offensive line. That meant they only had 3 RBs on the roster: Derrick Henry, Dion Lewis and David Fluellen.

That is a little light considering that Fluellen plays some special teams and some FB, but ultimately it is fine because you have other guys who can fill those roles if you need him to take some carries in the game.
