Cleveland Browns defense: T.J. Carrie, SCB

A lot is being made about the starting cornerbacks for the Cleveland Browns, or at least the perceived starters.

After the 2019 NFL Draft, people seemed to think that Denzel Ward and Greedy Williams would be the starting corners, but Terrance Mitchell seems to have that other boundary cornerback job locked down.

However, the guy I am most interested in is the Browns slot cornerback, T.J. Carrie.

Like most cornerbacks that play for Gregg Williams, Carrie had his best season in 2018 and it was the only season in his career that he hasn’t allowed a touchdown. However, less pressure up front (because while the Browns do have a quality pass rush, they won’t be blitzing six frequently like they would have under Williams) could lead to him covering longer.

According to history that wouldn’t be good for Carrie and it certainly doesn’t help that he will likely be asked to cover Corey Davis, A.J. Brown, Adam Humphries, or Delanie Walker in that role depending on the matchups that the Titans try to attack.

After not playing a lot in the preseason, I am curious to see how quickly he can fit into this defense and how good the communication is between he and the rest of the defense in such a crucial situation.
