Tennessee Titans: Biggest surprises from roster cut day
Taywan Taylor trade
There were some rumblings on Friday that the Titans might trade Taylor to the Cleveland Browns, but you always have to take rumors like that with a grain of salt.
This is how it started.
The Titans dealt Taylor to the Browns in exchange for a seventh-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. In effect, the Titans flipped Taylor for outside linebacker Reggie Gilbert, who was received in a deal with the Green Bay Packers for the team’s 2020 seventh-rounder.
The writing was somewhat on the wall that something would happen with Taylor after he didn’t play in the fourth preseason game.
The two likely scenarios we thought could happen were that either Taylor was safe — which he didn’t deserve to be after being outplayed by Kalif Raymond — or he was going to be traded.
Well, the latter ended up happening and now Taylor is in Cleveland, and the Titans have a 2020 seventh-round pick again. In two moves, the Titans kept a pick and dealt from a position of depth and added to a position of need.
You can never just assume a trade will happen, especially involving a player who was a team’s third-round pick just two years ago. This move was probably the biggest surprise of Saturday.
