Mike Vrabel says Kevin Pamphile is Titans starting RG for now
Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel all but confirmed that Kevin Pamphile will be the team’s starting right guard in Week 1.
There was some question as to who would start at right guard for the Tennessee Titans when the season begins, but it appears the team is ready to go with Kevin Pamphile at the position.
Prior to Friday’s practice, head coach Mike Vrabel said that Pamphile is the starting right guard, and that’s where things stand for right now, according to Erik Bacharach of The Tennesseean.
Vrabel did go on to say that things can change when talking about Pamphile. We’ll see if anything in fact does, whether it be through a position change, trade, or other means.
As we wrote earlier today, general manager Jon Robinson seemed to hint that center Ben Jones could slide over to play right guard, which would put Corey Levin at center. Now that we have this quote from Vrabel, it appears that won’t happen prior to Week 1.
Pamphile has not looked great this preseason, and he culminated his exhibition slate with a poor showing in Preseason Week 3. Not only did Pamphile allow a sack, he also was called for a penalty that negated a 12-yard reception by wide receiver, A.J. Brown.
Fellow right guard, rookie Nate Davis, could have won the starting job, but an injury that forced him to miss significant practice time no doubt hurt his chances.
Davis is expected to be back at practice on Friday, per Vrabel, and was seen warming up with the team prior to the Preseason Week 4 game against the Chicago Bears.
Vrabel also said that the starting offensive line is pretty much set, which is no surprise considering the only real question was at right guard.
Regardless, Pamphile’s spot is not safe after Week 1. If Davis can return healthy and get to practicing fully again, the rookie out of Charlotte should be able to take it from the veteran at some point during the season.
