We’re starting to get some word on a few Tennessee Titans players who won’t make the 53-man roster.

It appears we have some early names from the Tennessee Titans that won’t make the team’s 53-man roster, which will be sorted out by this weekend.

Paul Kuharsky has listed both outside linebacker Derick Roberson and tight end Ryan Hewitt as two players who won’t make the 53-man roster.

Here’s the reports on both players.

Neither one of these are a surprise, to be honest.

Hewitt was never a lock to make the squad when he was signed in June. The Titans have four tight ends who are likely locked in at the moment in Delanie Walker, Jonnu Smith, Anthony Firsker and MyCole Pruitt.

As for Roberson: the UDFA out of Sam Houston State was a standout during training camp and did some good things, but he was quiet for much of the preseason. Roberson did finish strong in the preseason finale with six tackles (five solo) and two sacks.

Regardless, it apparently wasn’t enough for Roberson to get a spot on the 53-man.

The writing was on the wall for Roberson already after the Titans completed a trade with the Green Bay Packers for outside linebacker Reggie Gilbert. The Titans gave up a seventh-round pick in the deal and Gilbert should be the No. 4 or No. 5 outside linebacker when the season starts.

With Kamalei Correa also on the roster beneath Harold Landry, Cameron Wake and Sharif Finch, Roberson was the No. 6 outside linebacker, and the Titans will carry five in total.

The Titans will hope to have Roberson on the practice squad, which would be a smart move considering he has shown flashes of being a talented player in college and during the offseason. Roberson finished tied for the most sacks in the FCS last season.
