If you just look at the yards, you may be baffled as to why I put LenDale White so high on this list, but if you watched him you will know that yards don’t tell the story.
As half of the “Smash and Dash” tandem with Chris Johnson, I can promise you he wasn’t the “Dash” in that duo. Still, you don’t need to be the fastest guy on the field if you can get low and use lower body strength to bully your way to the end zone.
The Titans would exhaust defenses by making them chase Chris Johnson around all day, only to bring in the hammer that was White. His complementary powerful running style translated marvelously from the college game to the professional one. If you do remember, he served as the electrifying Reggie Bush’s backup in the old Pac-10 with the USC Trojans.
White wasn’t a physical specimen, but behind that offensive line with that head of steam, it was very rare to see a front seven that could stop him when he wanted to win short-yardage situations. His NFL career might have only lasted four seasons, but he was a huge part of the Titans offense in the latter half of the previous decade.
