5 bold predictions for the Tennessee Titans 53-man roster after the preseason
By Will Lomas
3. The player starting RG for the Titans by week 2 isn’t on the roster yet or hasn’t played a snap at that position yet.
The way I see it, there are three options that the Tennessee Titans should really consider if they want to have a functioning right guard. Ranging from easiest to most difficult:
1. For some reason the coaching staff is really concerned about moving Corey Levin to guard full time, but what they have tried in practiced and have suggested as a possible solution is to start Corey Levin at center and move Ben Jones to right guard.
Jones played RG for the Houston Texans and was solid, but for the Titans he has been almost exclusively a center.
This solution keeps a veteran on the OL that can help call protection, identify blitzes and communicate with the rest of the linemen.
2. Let Kevin Pamphile start until rookie Nate Davis is healthy. I think the Titans were high on him during the preseason (only player to start two straight practices at RG for Tennessee before his injury) and if he would have played he would have been given every opportunity to start.
With Davis coming back from injury a few days ago, the question is whether or not he can pick up the nuances of an NFL offense and whether the injury hindered his technique corrections in any way.
If the staff still thinks Davis can start sooner than later then they will roll the dice on Pamphile until that time comes.
3. Comb the waiver wire for names they already have on a shortlist or to make a trade. This one is the least likely because there is likely no familiarity between the coaching staff and the player coming in via waivers. Also, while Vrabel seemed to think a trade was a real possibility the question will be about how much it is going to cost the Titans who already are missing their 4th round pick.
