Stock up: Kalif Raymond

Raymond was quiet in the Titans’ second preseason game after recording just one catch for 21 yards, but he came alive again on Sunday night.

The UDFA out of Holy Cross hauled in five catches for 58 yards, including a long reception of 23 yards. Raymond led all Titans receivers in both catches and yards.

He did the same thing in Preseason Week 1, when he totaled six catches for 80 yards and earned our Player of the Game award.

More importantly for Raymond’s prospects, the guy he seems to be competing with for a roster spot at this point, Taywan Taylor, did next to nothing. It isn’t crazy to think that Raymond could have a leg-up on Taylor for the final wide receiver spot on the team, and it also helps that Raymond has shown flashes of being a solid returner.

Stock down: Taywan Taylor

Taylor’s stock has been falling since the first week of preseason when he dropped two balls and failed to haul in another after he couldn’t get his feet in bounds on a reception. Taylor followed that up with nothing special in Week 2.

Preseason Week 3 wasn’t much different. Taylor saw maybe a few snaps at most in the first half, with the vast majority of his playing time coming in the second half with the backups. With that said, Taylor totaled just two catches for 14 yards.

One week after Darius Jennings, who had a beautiful 46-yard kick return on Sunday night, was pulled from the game before Taylor was, it appears the third-round pick is in even bigger trouble now.

At best, Taylor looks like he’s sixth on the depth chart and has now been been outplayed by Raymond for the second time this preseason.

Taylor might be on the outside looking in entering Preseason Week 4, and a strong performance there could be the difference between him making the roster or not. It’s strange to say it, but that’s where we are based on how the former third-round pick has played this preseason.
