Winner: Jack Conklin, Taylor Lewan

If Taylor Lewan wasn’t already the highest paid LT in the NFL, he would have had a strong case to get that deal after the offensive line’s performance on Sunday.

I will get more detailed on that negative later, but the positive is that against the Steelers starting defense both Taylor Lewan and Jack Conklin looked great.

At right tackle, Conklin anchored well against T.J. Watt who was my biggest concern coming into the game and handled the bigger guys well as he always does.

Taylor Lewan looked agile on the left side like he always does displaying power and athleticism that makes him perfect for the scheme.

Right now it looks like both could play at a Pro Bowl level this year and both seem to understand and work in this system better than they did a year ago. If they can stay healthy the offensive line should look like 2016 or better at least at the offensive tackle position.

On the flip side, Dennis Kelly can go ahead and start negotiations to come back for the Tennessee Titans as a swing tackle again next year because they tape he is putting out as a starting left tackle isn’t going to get him a job in the NFL next year.

I have a lot of hope for Kelly and I thought he could push to start somewhere on the offensive line this year just because he was so good last year and has always looked like an above average tackle but he just isn’t doing it for me (or for Marcus Mariota). Maybe he is a right-side only kind of guy.
