Tennessee Titans Preseason Week 3 Player of The Game: Amani Hooker
Tennessee Titans safety, Amani Hooker, takes home the Preseason Week 3 Player of the Game award in the Titans’ loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday Night.
The Tennessee Titans had a brutal night as a whole with very few bright spots. One of those bright spots was the play of rookie safety, Amani Hooker.
The former Iowa Hawkeye took advantage of an errant throw made by Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph. Miscommunication between Rudolph and second-year receiver James Washington led to an opportunity that Hooker was not going to let slip through his hands.
The rookie safety made a diving interception to give the Titans the ball back at their own 45-yard line, although the offense failed to do anything with the excellent field position following the turnover.
Hooker finished the night with three tackles, one pass breakup, and the diving interception. Hopefully the former 4th-round pick is able to make more splashy plays when the games really count.
Honorable Mention #1: Brett Kern
I would have loved to give this spot to someone else, but on a night where there were very few things to cheer about, punter Brett Kern was undoubtedly one of the best players on the field. He averaged 68.5 yards per punt and finished the night with 137 net yards on two punts. Kern once again showed the country why he has been selected to two consecutive pro bowls.
Honorable Mention #2: Jeremy McNichols
The former Boise State running back continues to make his case for a roster spot. McNichols suffered an injury scare early on but displayed his toughness as he was back out there carrying the ball a few plays later.
McNichols had arguably the best offensive play of the day. He took advantage of having three-time Pro Bowl left tackle Taylor Lewan out there with him as he sliced the defense for a 23-yard run towards the left side of the field. McNichols finished the night with nine carries for 43 yards.
