6 Tennessee Titans who need strong Preseason Week 3 performance
Jeremy McNichols
A golden opportunity has fallen into the lap of Jeremy McNichols. The running back’s stock got a boost on Wednesday when it was reported by Paul Kuharsky that the Tennessee Titans’ favorite to be the No. 3 back, David Fluellen, had surgery on his knee and may or may not be ready for Week 1.
McNichols has been far and away the best back among Tennessee’s reserves. McNichols has seen a ton of first-team reps with Derrick Henry having not practiced after suffering a strained calf muscle on the opening day of camp.
The former fifth-round pick has made the most of his chances, and was a daily standout in training camp. Now he’s followed that up with two solid preseason games, as he led the Titans in rushing in the opener and scored on a 15-yard reception in the second game.
Fluellen isn’t likely to be cut with the Titans looking for him to play fullback this season. That means a fourth back could be necessary if Fluellen isn’t ready for Week 1, as the Titans can’t have just two healthy backs on their roster to start 2019.
In the event that happens, McNichols is the favorite to make the roster among the rest of the backs and can solidify his spot even more than he has already with yet another strong preseason game.
