Tennessee Titans head coach, Mike Vrabel, gave his thoughts on former NFL running back, Cedric Benson, who lost his life on Saturday.
The football world is mourning the sudden and unexpected death of former NFL running back, Cedric Benson, who tragically lost his life in a motorcycle accident on Saturday.
Benson, 36, was a college star at Texas, and was the Chicago Bears’ No. 4 overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft. He also played with the Cincinnati Bengals and Green Bay Packers during his career.
Titans head coach, Mike Vrabel, was asked about Benson on Monday, and had this to say about what kind of player Benson was, and gave his reaction to the tragic event, per Jim Wyatt of Titans Online.
“Big, fast, physical, good balance, catch the ball out of the backfield. Certainly a tragedy to lose him at such a young age. Again, just another example of being thankful for what we have, when we have it.”
Benson’s accident occurred in Austin, Texas, when his motorcycle crashed into a minivan on Saturday. Cops say speed and poor visibility were the main factors in the crash, according to TMZ. Nobody in the minivan was hurt, but Benson did have a female passenger who died in the wreck.
Benson played for the Longhorns from 2001 to 2004. He totaled 5,540 yards and 64 touchdowns on the ground in four years, while also grabbing 69 passes for 621 yards and three touchdowns.
Benson won the Doak Walker award in his senior season, which recognizes the top running back in the country.
His tenure with the Bears after being drafted in 2005 didn’t work out as planned, but Benson was able to revive his career with the Bengals after posting three consecutive 1,000-yard seasons from 2009 to 2011. He would go on to retire after playing in five games for the Packers in 2012.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Benson’s family and friends.
