The Tennessee Titans were victorious in their preseason opener against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Tennessee Titans had an impressive preseason opener with a 27-10 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1.

Tennessee got off to a slow start with the first-team offense on the field.

Quarterback Marcus Mariota played just one series to open the game, completing four of his eight passes for 24 yards. All four of his connections were to one of the Titans’ newest receivers, Adam Humphries.

The Eagles got the scoring started in this preseason contest on their second drive, going 35 yards and ultimately finishing with a 53-yard field goal off the leg of Jake Elliot to take a 3-0 lead.

The Titans would go on to answer on the next series with an impressive 89-yard scoring drive that was setup by running back Jeremy McNichols’ 37-yard scamper.

Backup quarterback Ryan Tannehill put the Titans in the end zone with a one-yard connection to tight end MyCole Pruitt to take a 6-3 advantage (missed extra point), the first of two touchdown passes in the game for Tannehill.

It didn’t take long for the Eagles to strike back and take a 10-6 lead after quarterback Nate Sudfeld hit receiver Marken Michel on a deep post route for a 75-yard touchdown. Titans cornerback Adoree’ Jackson was the victim, as his diving attempt to knock the pass down failed.

Tannehill and the Titans answered two drives later, with the former Miami Dolphins signal-caller finding tight end Anthony Firsker in the end zone to cap-off an 87-yard drive.

In all, Tanehill looked sharp, completing 12-of-16 passes for 130 yards and two scores. Tanehill could have been even better if not for three dropped balls, two of which went off the hands of receiver Taywan Taylor, and one of those drops were in the end zone.

The Titans took a 14-10 lead into the half.

Second half

It was all Titans in the second half. Tennessee’s defense pitched a shutout against the Eagles in the final 30 minutes.

For Tennessee, Quarterback Logan Woodside took over at the end of the first half and played the rest of the way. Overall, the Titans’ third-string QB played well, completing 15 of 20 passes for 138 yards and two touchdowns.

He was responsible for both scores of the second half, the first of which didn’t come until the start of the fourth quarter.

Woodside threw a 25-yard touchdown strike to receiver Cody Hollister, and found paydirt a second time with Tanner McEvoy from 17 yards out. At that point, the Titans took a 27-10 lead and never looked back.

The Titans offense totaled 388 yards, with 263 of those yards coming through the air. On defense, the Titans were able to limit the Eagles to just 227 total yards of offense.
