Taywan over Tajae

With the training camp he’s having, we expected to see Tajae Sharpe ahead of Taylor on the depth chart. Again, this isn’t set in stone, but after Sharpe was arguably the most impressive receiver during the team’s Saturday night scrimmage, this is a bit surprising.

One thing’s for certain: Mariota’s trust for Sharpe is pretty high considering he was the Oregon product’s favorite target on Saturday night, and looked great in the process.

In the end, this might not matter at all because Brown should surpass both at some point. There is simply too much upside to keep the Ole Miss product down in the depth chart for this season, however he’s got some work to do in catching up to the rest of the pack.

The punt returners

Listed as punt returners are Humphries and cornerback Adoree Jackson. Jackson was the player handling punts for the Tennessee Titans last season.

Before we jump to conclusions that Humphries is the man for the job, we should note that head coach Mike Vrabel guaranteed that both will handle punts this season after Monday’s practice. It remains to be seen who will do the majority of the work, though.

Humphries handled 21 punts in 2018, averaging 6.6 yards per return, as compared to Jackson who returned 16 punts and average 9.3 yards per return. No matter who handles the majority of the punt return duties, Titans fans will be collectively holding their breath on each return, with both Humphries and Jackson being so important on either side of the ball in 2019.
