David Long, LB

People forget about David Long a lot, but he had a really great career at WVU where he got substantially better every season. Look at his three seasons as a starter:

2016: 63 tackles, 4.5 TFLs, 2 sacks

2017: 75 tackles, 15.5 TFLs, 3.5 sacks

2018: 108 tackles, 19.5 TFLs, 7 sacks

He ended up 2018’s TFL leader in the Big 12 and he is 11th all time in the conference despite playing only three years of football there.

When you watch him play, he occasionally takes a wrong step, but he is very rarely still. He is a find ball, get ball kind of guy and when you watch him he has that Jayon Brown “I’m everywhere” kind of feel to him.

Can he take that aggression and have a big game against NFL talent? If so, the Long could be well on his way to locking up a special teams spot and potentially being the third linebacker on this squad when/if Wesley Woodyard retires or moves on.
