I have to say, I love this defense. As you can see from my picks, I loaded up on the linebackers and somewhat on the defense overall because as we all know, defense wins championships.
With all the notable defensive ends off the board, I decided to move Cameron Wake to defensive end in this 3-4 defense, allowing Kamalei Correa to slide into the right outside linebacker spot. That shouldn’t be too much of an issue when you have guys like Wesley Woodyard, Rashaan Evans and Harold Landry lining up behind Wake and beside Correa.
The secondary is solid, although Will does have the edge in that regard. Still, Malcolm Butler will be excellent on the outside, and Kenny Vaccaro back deep is not a bad look. Any deficiencies beyond those two can be covered up by my filthy pass rush.
My only concern here is that Adam Humphries could run wild in the slot, which will necessitate Woodyard and Evans keeping him at bay, with Vaccaro helping out as well. I don’t like that situation and I may just have to bring Butler into the slot to protect against Humphries.
Along with Wake on the right side of the defensive front, one of my captains, Matt Dickerson, will bookend the defensive line, with Austin Johnson at nose tackle. Not the best defensive line for sure, but my options were limited, and I do have a loaded linebacker corps. to back things up.
This is a pretty balanced defense that can both stop the run, and get to the quarterback. Again, I might have an issue in the secondary, but a great pass rush can cure those ills, and my squad certainly has that going for it.
