Tennessee Titans training camp winners and losers this far
By Will Lomas
Loser: A.J. Brown
There is a long career ahead of A.J. Brown, but so far you have to be a little bit concerned with his availability.
Now, the argument is that you would rather have him miss the preseason and be ready for Week 1 as a rotational player who is getting his experience on the fly. The problem is, Marcus Mariota has always been a timing passer who wants his WRs running precise routes.
If you can’t do that or if he isn’t familiar with your timing, it forces him to hesitate because he doesn’t want to throw the ball only for the receiver to miss time the route, the ball pops up in the air, and he gets picked off.
That chemistry will take a while to develop and it seems like other receivers are already building that with Marcus Mariota.
There is a good chance that if Brown doesn’t get back soon, we see a similar situation to what we saw with Rashaan Evans last year where a good player really can’t show just how good they are until the middle of the season.
